TravelCommons podcast
It's more about the journey than the destination
So many podcasts are just people yacking, sometimes about nothing. But a few podcasts out there, like the TravelCommons podcast, really have something to say.
TravelCommons makes excellent use of the podcast medium, primarily because it has a thoughtful, likeable host, Mark Peacock. A prolific traveler (business, I assume), Mark knows the ins and outs of travel, offers nice insights on his experiences and makes the listener feel like he is telling them a story, all of which add up to great radio.
In one episode, Mark recounts his encounters with overly zealous airport screeners who harass him about his tooth powder as well as other personal products. Another show features his meanderings on 'long distance guilt' - being on a business trip far away from his family when they need him most. He also gives us 'classic travel stories overheard in a bar' from the frequent business travelers who find themselves alone in the hotel bar while on business trips. The grand finale is his story about being in a bar in Sweden where a bunch of boisterous Swedes sing along word-for-word with Don McClean's tune, 'American Pie'.
So if you're looking for a podcast that's not just more 'blah', check out the TravelCommons - it's an uncommonly good podcast.
