While Budapest often draws top musical talents for summertime concerts, this month several global greats of rock, blues, and jazz are arriving in Hungary to get their groove on. Click 'read more' for more.
JULY 13
JOHN MAYALL AND THE BLUESBREAKERS
As a true guitar hero since the 1950s, John Mayall has influenced generations of music stars and played with the legendary likes of Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker. Even today at 74 years old, Mayall still rocks like none other - experience his band's soul-shaking sound at Budapest's Petőfi Csarnok (Pest XIV, Zichy Mihály út 14, in City Park) beginning at 7:30pm.
JULY 5
RETURN TO FOREVER
Combining the inimitable musical skills of keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, drummer Lenny White, and guitarist Al Di Meola, the supergroup Return to Forever dominated the jazz fusion scene during the 1970s, and reunited this year to again tour the world. Catch these melodic masters when they play one Budapest show at the Papp László Sportaréna (Pest XIV, Stéfania út 2, at the M2 Népstadion metro stop) starting at 8pm.
JULY 4
PAT METHENY GROUP
A genuine Kansas City jazzman who first gained widespread acclaim as a teen, Grammy-winning guitarist and composer Pat Metheny is considered a pioneer of electronic music, performing with David Bowie, Herbie Hancock, and many other noted note-makers since the seventies. Enjoy the jazz genius with Christian McBride and Antonio Sanchez on the Margaret Island Open-Air Stage (Margaret Island, under the Water Tower) kicking off at 7:30pm.
And if these acts don't float your boat, check out Avril Lavigne on 7 July or Seal on 15 July, both at Petőfi Csarnok. Lenny Kravitz does the Papp László Sportaréna on 22 July.
