Chillin on the Cheap

Another cool place to beat the heat on a budget! The Pünkösfürdői strand, the cheapest outdoor water park in Budapest opened its doors to the public on July 18th. The strand charges 1000 Ft for adults and only 600 Ft for children, on any day of the week. They also offer a special family ticket - for only 2600 Ft a family of four can enter, which technically means that one child goes in for free.

Hungarian news portal Index reported that two years ago this pool complex had to close down because of financial loss due to the low number of visitors. Even after considerable renovations in 2003 the average was only 11 visitors per day, while it capable of hosting 1500. Now they have re-opened with new facilities and lower prices, in hope of attracting more guests.

The outdoor complex offers three 24 degree pools, comfortably spread out on a grassy area, between shady trees and rose pergolas. Each pool is equipped with up to date machinery, keeping the water clean. With slides for children in the kiddie pool, and a Finnish sauna for adults, the strand is worth a visit.

The strand season in Budapest lasts until August 31.
