Sziget Six Catchup

To get you caught up, here's a roundup of what we've been chit-chatting about in episodes of Budacast's Sziget Six contest.

In Episode 1, Márk Bóna, music program coordinator of the Sziget Festival talks about the 2008 line-up. Besides the 17 music stages, with BIG NAMES like Iron Maiden and R.E.M., theater venues and cultural events will be keeping daytime campers entertained. Márk gives tips on how to enjoy Sziget, and tells us why the island is so peaceful, even while getting lost.

More music:
The Killers
Roisin Murphy
Jamiroquai

In Episode 2, the meaning of Hajógyári Island is revealed. No longer a ship-factory, this island is a park and a year-long party center, home to 8-10 clubs. Márk discusses ELECTRONIC music in the lineup, the Party Aréna stage and the Medusa, a special octagonally-shaped building.

More music:
Carl Cox
Ferry Corsten
Anima Sound System

In Episode 3, Márk Bóna, who has worked for Sziget since 2004, shares his fond Sziget memory of performing as a DJ. He recommends HUNGARIAN BANDS to be on the look-out for and suggests tips for newcomers: Come early, get in faster and feel the mood!

More music:
®agar and The Underground Divas
neo
ColorStar

In Episode 6, we talk about world music and jazz. Márk fills us in on the Roma tent and the Jazz stage which, according to Mark, is much fresher this year and includes more upcoming musicians, but will also have some world-renowned classics like Maceo Parker and Rhoda Scott, who is barefoot when she plays her Hammond organ. Mark's favorite, however, is a band called "Smooth" from France.

In terms of money for the Sziget Festival, Márk says you should have around 20-25,000 forints (about 100 euro) in your pocket to make it through a day on the Sziget; the Festival organizers try to maintain uniform and low prices for drinks.

Hi, i'm from Szombathely, but living in Bp for 10 years. I can't count my sziget experiences, the best of sziget: moloko, besh'o drom, korai öröm, klezmatics, massive attack, nine inch nails, jovanotti, palotai in mokka cuka, cöxpon ambient... etc.
sziget-city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty... :) ciao
