Odds and Sods

The e-mails are piling up, so Budacast is playing a little catch-up with announcements about new pubs opening up, concerts, gallery openings, etc. Click "read more" for more.

Delving way back into the mail bag, we've received word from Terry Etheridge, one of the owners of The Queen Victoria Pub-Budapest, that the joint has Sky Sports showing UK football, good honest pub grub and a separate music room.

There are no coincidences. A homey of one of our closest homies, Ian, is throwing a "Funky Carnavale" party, described as "an explosive cocktail of Latin party vibes", this Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 9:00pm at the Queen Vic (Kértesz utca 33. VII kér.). DJ E-N (Ian) has a bag full of musical tricks and will do his best to get the booties shakin' on the dancefloor.

If your in Budapest and into fashion, check out Showroom Szidonia Szep, a place to have a tea and page through fashion books and magazines when there's not some fashion-related event going on.

A reminder that the Akku cultural center has been revived; this Saturday, 28 February they'll have a traditional Hungarian táncház ("dancehouse") with live folk music and dancing from 5pm. Or just go to check out the wonderful neon signs in the venue's courtyard which have been lovingly collected from all over Budapest. And there's also a film series at Akku every Tuesday and Thursday in March at 5pm.

A bit further on up the road, one of Hungary's big summer festivals has lined up some big names for this July. The VOLT festival in Sopron features the return of LIMP BIZKIT after years of silence, the provocative metal icon MARILYN MANSON, as well as British super-group of the moment FRANZ FERDINAND, among many many others. If you're up for one of the Hungarian mega-festivals, Volt offers a slightly more intimate atmosphere.

Finally, Beáta Széchy has sent us an invitation to Traditional Rajasthani Folk Dances Indian Culture Internationally at the Jókai Club on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 7:00pm; 1121 Budapest, Hollós út 5. Tickets are just Huf 1,000.

Picture this: the opening of a photo exhibition by Gábor Arion Kudász happens on 3 March from 6-8pm at the Vintage Gallery.

Is that enough for you to sate your cultural cravings?

Please send in your (brief) Budapest cultural news with a picture and a link! We'll be glad to post it.

Stay tuned,

Uncle Drew
