This and That

If you're walking around Budapest this summer and wonder where the hell the locals are, we'll fill you in. They leave the city to enjoy summer to its fullest: at the Balaton, beaches, pubs, festivals. We'll help you find them. Click 'read more' for more.

There's a lot of stuff to choose from. We picked a few quirky activities for you to plunge into and forget about the rain coming down between 3.00PM and 7.00PM every single day.

1. Late Night Museum Party (3-4.7.)

The Ludwig Museum This is a 2 in 1 closing and opening party of the Anton Corbijn & Robert Capa exhibitions. Corbijn bids farewell to Budapest, Capa just opens. The Museum offers a guided tour for both exhibitions plus live music. On Friday DJ Palotai is going to mix some tunes, on Saturday the Realistic Crew is responsible for the party.

2. Fotófalu (16-22.7.)

Taking place in [link=]Cserhátszentiván, a scenic little village in the North-Eastern part of the country, the Photovillage offers courses, workshops, open lectures on photography. From landscapes to camera obscura, from analogue b&w to experimental and digital there's a lot to learn at this summer camp. Among the workshop-leaders one will find renowned artists like Gábor Gerhes, Mátyás Misetics, László Haris, Luca Gőbölyös.

3. Szárnyas Sárkány (10-12.7.)

The "Winged Dragon Festival" in Nyírbátor is a colorful gathering of street performers, alternative theater groups, and puppeteers sharing a passion about Central-European folklore. Famous participants include Oleg Zhukovsky, György Szabados and the Teatr Vegajty. In an authentic setting, near the Báthory Castle one will surely feel like flying back in time, enjoying a Medieval carnival.

4. Bor, mámor, Erdőbénye (15.8.)

5. Popular gastrobloggers (among them Zsófi, whom you might know from an earlier Budacast), 5 artisan winemakers, 5 different styles of music, taste, dishes. The line-up is so promising that we're inclined to say: in the heart of the Zemplén hills, the "Hungarian Provence", something genuinely awesome is about to happen. It's about time to re-discover this wonderful part of the country, where young winemakers and restaurateurs dwell.
